Showed up at the Apple store around 6pm, got my copy of Tiger, and a La Cie d2 160Gb external drive.
The first guinea pig is going to by my powerbook G4 12", so I started a Carbon Copy Cloner image onto the d2 after dinner (around 9pm). CCC image finished around 11:20pm (I have 26Gb on the drive), and started install at around 11:40pm. Verification of the DVD took until 11:50pm, and verification of install disk took until 11:54pm. At 11:50pm, it says that it will take about 54 minutes to complete, but at 12:03am it says 25 minutes remaining.
It finally finishes at 12:22pm, and restarts into the new installation, pausing at the grey apple screen (I assume doing a filesystem check) for another couple of minutes. From there it is up and into the Apple setup screen. Updating the spotlight index took another 2 hours or so, but the machine was fully usable during that time. I'll give more impressions in a later post once I have more time to play with it.
